Salesforce’s ‘Family’ Now Includes Bots—And They’re Doing the Work

According to Benioff, it’s time we all adjust to a new reality: AI is taking over tasks humans once did, freeing people up to focus on “higher-value work.” But for some at Salesforce, that shift has meant something else entirely—being shown the door. Earlier this year, the company laid off about 1,000 employees, even as it continued hiring human workers to help sell its growing suite of AI products.

One standout in that lineup is Salesforce’s AI tool, Agent Force, which Benioff says has already attracted more than 5,000 clients building their own AI agents. The company is on pace to hit an ambitious target of producing 1 billion AI agents by the end of this year.

As for whether AI could eventually take over executive jobs, Benioff seemed pretty unfazed. When asked if an AI could one day replace him as CEO, he quipped, “I hope so,” before adding with a laugh, “I’m partially kidding.”
