To be considered for the SOAS Teaching Scholarships, applicants must meet specific criteria: 

Academic Level: Must be pursuing a full-time MPhil/PhD program starting in the 2026 ⁄27 academic year. Geographic/Ethnic Background: Black British Students: Permanent residents in the UK (Home fee status) from Black or Mixed Black ethnic groups. International Students: Ordinarily residents of Africa, Asia, or the Middle East. Palestinian Nationals: One scholarship is specifically reserved for an applicant who is a Palestinian national and an ordinary resident of historic Palestine (Gaza Strip, West Bank, East Jerusalem, or Palestinian citizens in Israel). Admission Offer: Applicants must have received an offer of admission to an eligible MPhil/PhD program at SOAS by the time the scholarship selection panel meets. English Language Proficiency: If required, candidates must meet the English language condition of their admission offer by May 10, 2026. Exclusivity: The scholarship cannot be held concurrently with any other major scholarship or studentship.


The Application Process: Your Path to SOAS The application process involves two crucial steps: 1. Apply for Your MPhil/PhD Programme: Submit a complete application for your desired MPhil/PhD program at SOAS. It is advisable to do this as early as possible, as admission decisions can take up to 4-6 weeks. 2. Apply for the Scholarship: Once you have applied for a course and received login credentials, you must apply for the scholarship via the admissions portal. Key Application Component: A widening participation statement (maximum 800 words) is required. This statement should outline how you meet the eligibility criteria, any obstacles you have overcome, your reasons for choosing SOAS, and how this scholarship will benefit your career aspirations or community.
