Unripe Plantains Could Prevent Ulcer Formation
I have been an ardent plantain consumer, and I have cooked it in varied ways. Although I was aware of some of its health benefits from my scant Home Economics knowledge, I did not consider checking the health value of plantains until now. Plantains are unlike bananas and they are loaded with carotenoid anti-oxidants such as, alpha and beta carotene.

British researchers have discovered that the phytochemical leucicyanidin may contribute in protecting against the formation of ulcers.
Plantains have a healthy combo of nutrients namely:Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Potassium and fibre.
Plantain contains 2.3g of dietary fibre per 100g. Sufficient amount in food helps to lower constipation problems ( Source ) on the contrary, I though plantain could cause constipation because it is rather hard and dry.
Who would have thought that plantains carry more vitamins A than bananas and besides being a superb antioxidant, vitamin A helps in the visual cycle as it sustains mucus membranes and enhance skin complexion. Please do not hurry to over consume...lol.
Plantains provide enough levels of minerals such as magnesium, iron and phosphorus and potassium. Potassium is ideal for the body as it helps to control heart rate and blood pressure.
My deduction from several sources is that it is best to consume fresh unripe plantains than ripe ones. I love fried ripe plantains with vegetables and sometimes with fish. How do you prepare your plantains?
