EFKA- Born With Supernatural Powers
He was a village boy who had a unique gift brought to
him by a power beyond his comprehension. He called it the overwhelming presence
because the supernaturally weird creature never revealed his name to him
despite several attempts of trying to persuade him to do so. On this particular
first attempt, he found himself being lead through a narrow path in the
evergreen forest. For once, he thought he was leaving to find a place of peace,
quiet, comfort and was happy to follow to that space of no troubles. The
nymphos which led him seemed to understand each other, but on his part, he
could hardly grasp what they said. He knew for sure that they communicated and
it was as though they spoke differently when they wanted him to be on the same
page. They were close to the gates. From a stretched look, he could see that
the gates had huge barriers and was bolted with a lock. When they got to the gates, the nymphos
crawled to it, opened it, let him out, locked the gates, and hurried back to
the path they had walked through. He wondered why, but could not determine. Now
that the gates were locked, there was only one thing he could do and that was
to turn around and continue to the other side. At first, he thought all was
normal until he turned around and realised that he was standing next to a
moving pool of puddle. He wasn’t too sure what to think. Then he lifted his
right foot to take the first step only to realise that it was not just a muddy
puddle, but one filled with long wriggly worms which were eating each other.
Did he make the wrong decision of taking the first step? All the worms were
wriggling towards him at an incredible pace. Petrified with sweat running down
his cheek as to what their instant reaction would be, he closed his eyes, a
little drop of wee warmed his thighs as he immediately thought that was his end.
Having said his last words and cursed the day of his birth, why he was allowed
to undergo such misery and drudgery in the midst of his kind, and now hungry
worms, he firmly believed that would be his end. “Oh Matoufou, hear me and save
me if you can from the wrath of these wilds.” The stillness of the environment
chilled him to his bones. With his eyes still closed, he wondered why the
beasty worms weren’t crawling towards him, making such noise as to scare any
living creature away. Then, he slowly opened his right eye while the left was
firmly closed. Behold, there was a mobile bright light rushing down the river
Darenth. It was so bright that it must have blinded the worms or something.
They stood on all their tails with heads upright, but looking all humbled. The
worms seemed to give way to a more important worm, but no. It wasn’t any worm
of great calibre. It was a mobile bright light that they themselves were
utterly clueless of. The light came directly to him and wrapped him up like a
new born baby and while in the waves of the light, he felt calm, safe, and
undisturbed. He felt at ease with the sophistication of that moment that when
he thought it was time to ask who or what this light was, it left him on the
other side of the forest-where there were pretty flowers, refreshed air and
everyone looked like him. He noticed he was next to the primus flower and the
only thing that stuck to his brains were, “EFKA is light”.
As he rubbed his hands across his eyes to ensure
that he was not dreaming, he got up and all eyes stared at him as if to say
there was something inherently wrong with who he was. It was the light that
attracted many, but they couldn’t dare approach it, because it was brighter
than they could ever dream of. EFKA had taken some control of his heart and
brains, but had the liberty to come and go without question. Nahou knew there
was something different about him, something that was present in him that was absent
in many of those he came across. It was the presence of a power. He could imagine
that power, but could not perceive it and whenever he thought of the power it
felt as though it was present and that he was supreme above all. The presence
of EFKA in him, constructed a sort of mystery-an overwhelming presence which
enabled him to see though several eyeballs, and to speak with many mouths, but
was only able to process all that he saw, heard, and fell through one brain.
EFKA has control over the minds of everyone else
stretching from the seas to the sands, control over dawn and dusk. That power
was present in the boy because there was a void in him. For everyone, but him
was a chaser of rubies. The Optimist for that was the power’s name. The
Optimist could only dwell in a soul that had very little touch with rubies and
cowries. Rubies and cowries were the main means that enabled people to
transact. Without rubies, without cowries, it was impossible to live. The likes
of Nahou depended much on their parents. Ninong was the outcast of the town. It
was the mere benevolence of human sacrifice and the intervention of the spirits
to ensure that the likes of Ninong had food. He was often left to himself to
wonder off due to societal interpretation of his inability to make sense of the
world. Society had abandoned the likes of Ninong who scanned the filth of the
city, the trash from peoples’ homes and bins scavenging for food. Ninong did
not have to go far off to look for his food, and despite feeding in all the
filth and for all the years, he never took ill, never needed the services of
the hospital. And day in, day out, those who bothered about providing for the
people passed him by and looked at him with disgust. They questioned why he
never changed clothes, why his hair was constantly unkempt, why his family
members had given up hope on him. The condition in which he was exposed was
considered precarious for those with normal lives. It was a situation that they
would never dare to imitate not even for a nanosecond. Every day, the Boss
passed by, waving at others from a distance and never stopped to take a close
perspective at the lives of the people that were left in his control. Nahou
wanted to understand the mind of the Boss to understand why non-chalant he was
towards the predicaments of Ninong. Why Ninong was always in chains where as
they were murderers around the Terra city, who were free.
